ANNOUNCEMENT

Our commitment to credible climate comms: We’ve signed The Anti-Greenwash Charter

At Hattrick, we believe that better communication drives better climate action. That means saying what you mean and proving it.

Share

We’ve recently become an official signatory of the Anti-Greenwash Charter to help build a more honest and accountable standard for environmental claims in business.

This isn’t a badge. It’s a commitment. And it applies to us as well as the work we are producing on behalf of our clients.

"Agencies like Hattrick are key agents in raising the standard of sustainability communications, because they influence not only their own messaging but the way their clients talk about impact too. What’s great here is that they’re showing it’s possible to be creative in how they communicate, while still being completely credible. We're delighted to have them on board." - Charlie Martin, Founder & CEO, The Anti-Greenwash Charter

Putting policy behind our promises

We are proud to share our Green Claims Policy that aligns with the Charter. It’s our way of formalising what we already stand for and ensuring that every sustainability statement we share is specific, evidence-based and placed in the right context.

A natural step forward in our journey

We didn’t do this to start something new. We did it to strengthen what’s already in motion. From co-authoring Futurebuild UK’s research on greenhushing to our day-to-day work helping clients communicate on their sustainability goals and journey, we’ve been committed to avoiding greenwashing for a long time.

The research showed that 52% of built environment professionals have considered switching suppliers due to unclear green claims, while 38% have dialled down their messaging for fear of getting it wrong. At the same time, younger generations want businesses to lead and to show their evidence.

Now, we’re taking clear steps to show that we’re holding ourselves to the same standards we recommend to others.

Giving communicators the tools to get it right

As part of our wider mission, we also deliver a Carbon Literacy-certified masterclass. It’s the first course of its kind that has an entire module dedicated to understanding and tackling greenwashing in comms.

The training helps people feel confident talking about sustainability without falling into traps that undermine trust. It breaks down the legal and ethical risks of greenwash. It also opens up space for teams to share progress, ask questions and learn from one another.

It’s a practical, empowering tool for anyone who communicates on behalf of a business.

The Charter’s impact and why we’ve signed it

The Anti-Greenwash Charter lays out clear rules for credible environmental claims. It calls for greater transparency, stronger evidence and better training. And it is led by a coalition of responsible communicators through the Anti-Greenwash Charter Working Group.

We support their approach and the urgency behind it.

Greenwashing doesn’t just damage reputations. It slows climate progress. That’s why we’ve signed up and why we’re helping other businesses do the same.
