Step aside ‘millennial pink’. Pantone has announced its Colour of the Year for 2019 as Living Coral.
It was chosen in response to the ‘onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life’, which Pantone believes has led to people seeking ‘authentic and immersive experiences’.
So, we ask, is Living Coral the antidote to our ever-present, digital lives?
Understated vibrancy, bright buoyancy and joyful optimism – PANTONE 16-1546 is an immersive shade that embodies playful expression. It is hopeful and lighthearted; sociable and spirited – a symbol of life.
Living Coral is a ‘nurturing’ colour that is frequently found in nature. But equally, it has a strong presence across visual social media channels.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said: “Colour is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral.
“With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanising and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”
Now in its nineteenth year, Pantone’s Colour of the Year has been influencing product development and purchasing decisions since 2000.
From home furnishings to fashion, Living Coral is predicted to make a splash over the next 12-months. Especially on Instagram.
